Partners in Purpose: Prakash and Shakun Empowering Girls Through Education
Prakash Kumar and his wife, Shakun Kumari, hail from a remote and small village in Pali district, Rajasthan. Their family consists of Prakash’s parents, siblings, and sister-in-law. They are deeply passionate about education. Prakash has always loved teaching and is preparing for government exams while offering private tuition to children in his community. He holds a Master’s degree in Hindi, while Shakun has completed her Bachelor’s in Hindi. Together, they are Preraks in their village’s Educate Girls’ Pragati camp.
After becoming Preraks, Prakash and Shakun undertook the training provided by Educate Girls. This equipped them with the skills to effectively engage with learners and address their unique challenges. They began identifying adolescent girls and young women who had dropped out of school or never had the chance to study. They held meetings with families, explaining the importance of education and sharing information about the opportunities available after completing 10th grade.
The couple registered adolescent girls and young women for the Pragati camp and began guiding them to prepare for their exams. They spend extra time mentoring learners, helping them overcome challenges.
Their efforts have made a significant impact, with many girls now actively participating in the Pragati camp and pursuing their education with renewed determination. Prakash and Shakun’s dedication is a testament to the change that committed individuals can bring to their community. Their story is an inspiring example of teamwork and compassion to bring about positive change.
