7 Female Role Models in the Tech Industry
These women have defied odds, conducted crucial projects and ideas, and are forging the path for more women to join the tech industry.

Female leaders in technology – inspiring the girls to be the leaders of tomorrow –
1. Indra Nooyi
Indra Nooyi is often considered one of the most successful females of Indian origin in the business environment. She was the CEO of PepsiCo for 12 years, where she proved her mettle.
The path which Nooyi has followed from being born in a middle-class family in India to the position of one of the most powerful businesswomen is really impressive.
2. Reshma Saujani
Reshma Saujani is a lawyer, politician and the creator of Girls Who Code, an organisation with the primary mission to promote coding among women. Leveraging on Girls Who Code, Saujani has been able to teach thousands of young girls how to code and has a passion for technology. The organisation has several provisions for the children which include free summer programs, after-school clubs and online courses.
But what’s truly encouraging about Saujani is her resolve to help reduce the gender disparity in the tech industry and encourage young girls in STEM fields. She continues to play an important role in breaking barriers and fostering diverse representation in the technology sector.
3. Arundhati Bhattacharya
Arundhati Bhattacharya was the Chairperson of the State Bank of India (SBI) until recently. She is the first woman to occupy this lucrative seat. In Bhattacharya’s chairmanship, SBI underwent many digital enhancements such as the development of the bank’s mobile app and others. She has served the cause of modern India by contributing a lot to the banking sector.
The success of transforming the traditional banking organisation into a technologically advanced organization, using the strategies of Bhattacharya, made the young women IT professionals more inspired to work towards their objectives and goals.
4. Roshni Nadar Malhotra
The current chairperson of HCL Technologies which is one of the largest IT services companies across the globe is Roshni Nadar Malhotra. Rashmi has a great feat to her credit, she is the first woman to head a listed Indian IT firm. Since assuming the position of the Chairperson of HCL Technologies, she has seen the company grow further and expand its operations throughout the globe. She is also engaged in Philanthropic initiatives supported by the Shiv Nadar Foundation.
Roshni has transformed a vast tech company and shows dedication to charitable activities, which gives her the enabling factor for young females as role models in the world of technological and business pioneering.
5. Sheryl Sandberg
Sheryl Kara Sandberg was the number two at the very popular Meta under Mark Zuckerberg, and the author of the book Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead. She is working for the betterment of all women and to empower them for a better future through this organization. A Harvard grad, Sandberg’s contribution to the expansion and generation of profits for the social networking site cannot be underemphasized. Through Lean In, she has offered ways by which they can seek their career goals and personal growth as well.
Sandberg’s agenda of women’s rights and her fight for women to be given opportunities in the workplace have made her a transformer in business technology and in the world.
6. Ginni Rometty
Ginni Rometty has been CEO of IBM for eight years from 2012 to 2020. She was the first woman to head the company throughout the one hundred years of its existence. Rometty successfully navigated IBM through a lot of change where the firm started shifting its focus to important areas. With bold decisions such as investments, rebranding and repositioning, IBM has seen its golden years under her.
The capacity to manage and guide one of the world giants in information technology during periods of technological disruptions can only be accredited to Rometty’s leadership and strategic thinking. She is a role model for women who want to be in leadership positions as well as in technology companies.
7. Padmasree Warrior
Padmasree Warrior has been the Cisco Systems CTO and Motorola CTO. Warrior has also embraced technology leadership by directing efforts in networking technology at the giant Cisco Systems and mobile technology at Motorola. At NIO (USA), she has set her goals towards building smart electric vehicles.
Many women may look up to Warrior as a role model since she has many years of experience leading technology companies as well as fostering technological innovations. She has proved a woman is capable of leading tech companies and contributing to enhancing innovation.
